SPFE believes far too much class time is spent on testing rather than teaching. Not only do parents, students, and educators dislike the high-stakes standardized tests, these tests are an inaccurate measures of students’ abilities. Our members are best able to address the unique needs of all students when they are given more freedom to teach using a variety of techniques and to assess the true depth of student learning.
Put simply: high-stakes standardized testing limits our ability to provide high-quality public education to all Saint Paul’s kids.
SPFE’s Time to Learn Committee is a group of educators who are fighting to reduce the amount of unnecessary testing in our schools and to increase time for real learning. They are collaborating with teachers and parents from around the country to push back against high stakes standardized testing in the months leading up to the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCAs).
