2026 Elections

This year is a big year for elections. In St. Paul there will be 3 School Board seats. Every MN House and Senate seat is up for election, and there is an open seat for MN Governor and US Senator. Check back often for important political updates.

Early in-person absentee voting begins September 18, 2026. Early Voting begins October 16, 2026. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

MN Election Information

In Minnesota, you can vote early in person starting 46 days before Election Day. This year, early in-person voting starts on September 18, 2026. The last day to vote early in person is Monday, November 2, 2026.

There are several secure and convenient ways to vote early in person.

In-person absentee:

  • Early in-person absentee voting starts 46 days before Election Day, on September 18, 2026. This is identical to getting an absentee ballot mailed to you, except done in person at an early voting location. You will need to know your MN ID or SSN to fill out the application.
    • You will fill out an absentee application
    • You will get a ballot and vote it at an early voting location
    • The voted ballot will go into an envelope with a form on it
    • You will turn it in to the election official

Early voting

  • This is similar to voting at your polling place on Election Day, and starts 18 days before the election, on October 16, 2026. For all statewide elections, every county will have at least one early voting location.
    • You will complete a short form
    • You will receive a ballot and vote it at an early voting location
    • After completing the ballot, you will insert it into a ballot counter

SPPS Board of Education Screening

SPFE will be screening school board candidates on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 5pm via Zoom. This screening is open to anyone, including the general public, but you must RSVP by 3pm Wednesday, 4/15 in order to receive the Zoom link. The screening will be recorded and made available upon request. This screening is NOT open to the press.

All candidates will screen together, and will receive the questions in advance. No questions from attendees will be taken, and no questions from the chat will be taken. Please note, this is a screening, not a candidate forum and no campaigning during the screening is permitted.

Immediately following the screening, candidates and campaign staff and volunteers will be asked to leave. A feedback form will be made available to the remaining attendees to share their insights on the candidates. RSVP here.

Candidate questionnaires are available for review. All candidates must meet the SPFE Minimum Criteria for Endorsement, and shadow an educator for a day to qualify to screen.

SPFE will screen the following candidates for endorsement. (Please note that incumbent SPPS Board Chair Uriah Ward was endorsed for re-election in January, and will participate in the screening. SPFE will determine potential endorsements for two additional candidates):

Senate District 65 Candidate Screening

SPFE has endorsed Public Education and Labor champion Robyn Gulley for Senate District 65. If you are a delegate or alternate, please attend your convention on Sunday, March 29 at Humboldt High School. Don’t forget to wear your best SPFE red!

SPFE COPE will screen three candidates for SD 65 on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. This screening will take place via Zoom.
