SPFE Member Conversations on the Start of the School Year

The SPFE officers along with lead steward Pete Grebner and past VP Erica Schatzlein have started negotiations with SPPS regarding the start of the school year. In addition, we have members working in some the the district work groups. To keep our members informed and to hear your concerns we have been holding weekly zoom meetings on Wednesdays at 1:00If you are interested in participating in these meetings, please RSVP at this link  and we will send you login information prior to the meetings.

SPFE negotiations regarding COVID-19 working conditions and the start of the school year

SPFE is currently negotiating regarding COVID-19 working conditions and distance learning at the start of the school year. Last spring we negotiated the following two Memorandum of Agreements (MOA) and we are now proposing additions to these two MOAs. You can find the MOAs we negotiated at these links:

The proposed additions to these MOAs can be found at this link.

Accommodation Requests for folks who won’t be able to return to in-person work.

SPPS has now set up a webpage and a form for ADA accommodation requests. If you have a medical condition that will prevent you from returning to work in person and you need to request an accommodation to work virtually, you should complete this form now. If you do not qualify for an ADA accommodation, but still have a need to request working virtually, please fill out the ADA request form. The district will be requesting all requests for an accommodation to work virtually via this form, even if they do not meet the ADA threshold. Even though we will start the school year in distance learning, it is helpful for everyone if the district knows how many folks need an accommodation. If you have already sent an email requesting an accommodation, Human Resources has stated that you do NOT need to fill out the form and that they will follow-up if they need additional information from you to process your request. The link to the district website with information and the ADA form is here: https://www.spps.org/Page/39787

Additionally, our national affiliate, the American Federation of Teachers, has released this FAQ on ADA accommodations: https://www.spfe28.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Know-Your-Rights-Reasonable-Accommodations-FAQ.pdf
