Canvassers Being Hired for Supporting Endorsed Candidates

SPFE and AFSCME Council 5 are participating in a joint Independent Expenditure Program to elect pro-public sector City Council and School Board candidates. This IE will be hiring two canvass staff.

Canvassers will be responsible for door knocking potential voters from a provided list, engaging in persuasion-based conversations in support of our endorsed candidates, tracking responses from voters and reporting out trends on messaging. Although all canvassers will work in close proximity, each canvasser will be responsible for their own list. A new list will be issued at the start of each shift.

Hours: 20 hours per week, Sunday 10-6:30 (1/2 hour unpaid lunch) and Monday – Wednesday 4:30 – 8:30

Pay: $20 per hour, plus mileage to and from turf

Requirements: Canvassers will need access to a smartphone or tablet and reliable transportation. Canvassers will need to be comfortable working alone, and have good attention to detail. Canvass shifts will include evening hours (door knocking until 8:15 pm) and Sunday hours.

This position is temporary and will run from 9/15/19 through Election Day. Canvassers will be employed by the Independent Expenditure and not SPFE or AFSCME Council 5. The canvass will be housed out of SPFE, and provided support from SPFE political staff. Selected applicants will be invited to interview on 9/11, 9/12, and/or 9/16. Canvassers will have the option of starting on 9/15 OR 9/17.
